Join the Finance Team as the Controller!

Tohono O’odham Community College (TOCC) is seeking a dedicated professional to join our Finance Department as a Controller. In this role, you will perform complex accounting activities and manage resources to achieve college goals while supporting our core values of T-So:son (Our Beliefs, Well-Being, Deepest Respect, and Working Together). This is a full-time Exempt position.

Review of candidates will begin on Febrary 1st, and the position will remain open until filled. 

Hiring Salary Range: $75,000 to $85,000.

 

What You Will Do:

As the Controller, you will oversee the day-to-day fiscal health of the college through the following responsibilities:

  • Direct all day-to-day accounting, including Accounts Payable/Receivable, Payroll, Cash Management, and Fixed Asset Management.
  • Prepare and ensure the accurate issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with FASB and GAAP standards.
  • Manage the annual internal and external audit processes and ensure compliance with federal (OMB) and state regulations, particularly regarding grants and endowment funds.
  • Analyze budget-to-actual comparisons, develop asset-tracking mechanisms, and provide recommendations based on financial findings to support management decision-making.
  • Directly supervise, hire, and train the Accounting Technician, Procurement Specialist, and HR/Payroll Specialist.

What You Will Bring:

We are looking for a candidate with a strong technical background and the following skills:

  • A thorough understanding of GAAP and FASB standards, as well as federal, state, and local financial laws.
  • Expertise in analyzing complex financial data, performing mathematical calculations, and preparing comprehensive accounting reports.
  • Experience using computers and financial software applications, such as ERP systems and query development processes.
  • Skill in reconciling and auditing accounts to ensure documents are complete and accurate.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • Five years of professional experience in finance, accounting, and budgeting.
  • A valid state Driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting.
  • Status as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or progress toward this designation.
  • The ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
  • Knowledge of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.

     

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • Typical work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., though evening and weekend shifts may occasionally be required.
  • This is sedentary work performed in a typical office or administrative setting with no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.
  • The role requires close visual acuity for computer work and data analysis, as well as repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and fingers.
