Tohono O’odham Community College is seeking a qualified and passionate full-time Accounting Instructor to join our dynamic faculty team in the Education Division. We are looking for an ideal candidate with a strong background in accounting, a commitment to student success, and the ability to create an engaging learning environment. This is an exempt faculty position.

Salary: $50,554 - $74,350 salary commensurate with experience

 

What You Will Do:

As a full-time Accounting Instructor, your responsibilities will include:

  • Develop and deliver high-quality lectures, presentations, and practical exercises in accounting and related courses.
  • Teach 15 semester hour credits each semester.
  • Instruction will be in person, online, hybrid, and through video conference (Zoom). May include evening and weekend classes in any modality.
  • Contribute to developing a Bachelor's Degree in Business, enhance the accounting curriculum, and ensure alignment with industry standards and educational goals.
  • Integrate relevant case studies, real-world examples, and emerging trends in accounting into course materials.
  • Serve as an academic advisor to students, offering guidance on academic and career-related matters.
  • Facilitate study sessions, workshops, and advising meetings with students, including conducting office hours.
  • Provide constructive feedback to students to encourage continuous improvement and academic success.
  • Design and administer fair and comprehensive assessments to evaluate student understanding and progress.
  • Prepare and submit timely grade reports on student performance as scheduled or required.
  • Participate in meetings, committees, and other college and community activities.
  • Active participation in college activities, including the faculty senate and committee work, is required.

  • Maintain currency in industry trends, accounting standards in the USA, and educational best practices.

What You Will Bring:

  • Currency in instructional methodologies, advising processes and practices, and the ability to evaluate student performance.
  • Utilize diverse teaching methodologies to accommodate various learning styles.
  • Foster an inclusive and interactive learning environment that encourages student participation and critical thinking.
  • Technologically competent in the use of computers, software, and the ability to learn to deliver online classes.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills as applied to coworkers, supervisor, and the general public.
  • Knowledge of curriculum development and research methods.

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in accounting or a related field.
  • At least two years of relevant teaching experience, preferably at the higher education level.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

Licensing:

  • Valid state Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a fingerprint clearance card.

     

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional certification (e.g., CPA) is highly desirable.
  • Three to five years of relevant instructional experience in a higher education environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the history and of contemporary issues facing Native peoples.
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning environment and the ability to engage and motivate students in the learning process.

Work Environment & Schedule:

  • The position involves typical office or administrative work, with no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions.

Physical Demands:

  • The work is classified as Sedentary, involving sitting most of the time, with standing and walking required only occasionally.
  • Activities include talking, hearing, and repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Requires close visual acuity for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspection.
