JOB PURPOSE:
Provides transportation between campuses, to doctor’s appointments, and home on holidays. Transport passengers from place to place along established routes. Operates transit buses, motor coaches, or school buses.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Provides safe, reliable, and efficient transportation for students and employees on assigned routes.
2. Assists with the loading and unloading of passengers.
3. Drives bus in all weather conditions.
4. Inspects vehicles before driving including gas, oil, water, tires, and brake and transmission levels, to ensure the safety of operation.
5. Performs routine safety checks on vehicles to include: operable brake lights, turn signals, tire pressure, first aid kit, and emergency road kit.
6. Ensures that all vehicles are maintained in a safe operating condition.
7. Schedules routine vehicle maintenance including; oil changes, brake inspection, and wheel alignments, and reports problems or repairs as needed.
8. Ensures maintenance and cleanliness of all buses.
9. Follows proper procedures and policies when involved in an accident or when a student is injured, ensures accident report is completed promptly.
10. Follows all federal, state, local, and tribal traffic and safety regulations.
11. Attends all meetings and training pertinent to the job.
12. Maintains appropriate student management and reports student incidents to the appropriate supervisors.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
1. High School Diploma or GED.
2. Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with necessary endorsements and be insurable for vehicle operation.
3. Navajo Speaking preferred.
4. Valid state driver’s license.
5. Must be able to pass a background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
2. Knowledge of rules of the road and road signage.
3. Knowledge of New Mexico driver and passenger service regulations.
4. Knowledge of the community, campus, and surrounding areas.
5. Skill in the use of cleaning tools, chemicals, cleaners, and disinfectants.
6. Skill in displaying mature, patient, and understanding behavior.
7. Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
8. Ability to drive safely and efficiently.
9. Ability to use a variety of hand tools in performing minor maintenance.
10. Ability to analyze situations and adopt appropriate courses of action.
11. Ability to respond to and remain calm in an emergency or crisis situation.
12. Ability to safely operate vehicles.
13. Ability to prepare routine administrative paperwork.
14. Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
1. Requires the ability to sit for up to eight (8) hours per day.
2. Use of back, arms, hands, and legs to operate the bus.
3. Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
4. Talk, hear sit, stand; use hands to handle objects, equipment, and controls and reach with arms and hands.
5. Ability to lift, push, or pull upwards of 50 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
1. Work is typically performed within a bus.
2. Exposure to exhaust and gas fumes may occur when driving or monitoring the buses or vans.
3. Exposure to unpleasant odors, hazardous material, and infectious diseases.
4. Travel within and outside of the campus area is required.
5. Evening and weekend shifts may be required. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
