Job Description

This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Supervisory Education Program Specialist (TRIO Director) you will be responsible for developing and implementing programming to promote student persistence and retention, student success and graduation.

As a Supervisory Education Program Specialist (TRIO Director), GS-1720-11, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision:

  • Providing supervision, leadership and mentoring of staff, tutors and student workers in the TRIO-Student Support Services (TRIO-SSS) program.
  • Implementing, managing, and supplementing strategic student support programing related to peer tutoring, summer bridge program, seminar course, first generation students, student employment and other initiatives.
  • Ensuring TRIO-SSS is responding to student issues and concerns; working closely with students to resolve all issues to ensure ongoing satisfaction and successful progress towards graduation.
  • Working collaboratively with all university departments to identify incoming students who need additional support; developing and monitoring academic plans accordingly.
  • Performing instruction duties, depending on need. Assigned to a student caseload to create and manage academic success plans and ensure student progress.

This is a term position expecting to last at least 2 Years. If warranted, the agency has the option of extending term appointments up to the 4-year limit in accordance with 5 CRF 316.301(a).
