Are you a driving force for education and student success? Tohono O'odham Community College is seeking a Student Success Coach (SSC) to promote education and student success. In this role, you'll be a vital part of our Counseling Department, working to help students thrive and achieve their goals.
Hiring Salary Range: $53,884 - $59,900
What You'll Do
As an SSC, you will be a guide and a resource for our students. Your responsibilities will include:
- You'll help students define their personal goals and create customized plans to complete their degrees and certificate programs. This includes collaborating with instructors to track student progress and needs.
- You'll implement initiatives to help retain students and conduct workshops on topics like goal setting, time management, note-taking, and resume writing. You'll also address personal wellness issues and connect students with tribal and community resources.
- Help students with resume writing, job searching, and interview skills to prepare them for successful employment. You'll also work with the Recruitment and Outreach team to provide workshops at local high schools.
- Cultivate caring relationships with students and use data to monitor their progress and adapt your approach for their success.
- Support initiatives that promote Tohono O’odham Language and Culture.
Requirements
What You'll Bring
You will be an organized, compassionate, and knowledgeable professional. To be successful, you must have:
- Knowledge of academic programs, financial aid, college readiness, and employment skills.
- Familiarity with the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) as it relates to college students.
- Strong public speaking, communication, and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with students, coworkers, and the public.
- The ability to interpret and apply laws, rules, and policies.
- Experience using a computer and related software applications.
- The ability to use data to make sound recommendations and maintain confidentiality.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in education, social work, communication, or a closely related field.
- Two years of experience working in education and/or workforce development programs.
- A valid state Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
- The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and present or obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card.
Preferred Qualifications
- The ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
- Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.
Work Environment & Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position. The typical work hours are from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, but may require hours outside of this schedule for student and college activities. The work environment is subject to both inside and outside conditions, but you will not be substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. The physical demands of the job are considered sedentary work, with occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force.
