Job Summary

The faculty member will provide instruction in the Construction Trades program and support the academic mission of Sinte Gleska University through teaching, curriculum development, student advising, program assessment, and community engagement. The successful candidate will foster a supportive and culturally responsive learning environment while contributing to the continued growth and success of the Institute of Technologies Department.   

 

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and teach courses within the Construction Trades curriculum in accordance with  the SGU full-time faculty contract.  

  • Develop, plan, and submit course schedules for each academic semester in coordination with  the Department Chair and Director.  

  • Prepare and submit program budgets in a timely manner in collaboration with the Department Chair and Director.  

  • Maintain professional verbal and written communication with students, faculty, staff,  administrators, and the public in accordance with SGU policies and procedures.  

  • Collaborate with department faculty, staff, and administrators to support departmental goals  and contribute positively to the academic unit.  

  • Maintain accurate and ongoing student degree plan records in collaboration with the  Department Chair and Director throughout the academic year.  

  • Attend and participate in all required professional development and training activities.  

  • Attend and participate in all required departmental and institutional meetings.  

  • Plan, prepare, and assist with academic registration, advising, and related student support activities each semester.  

  • Serve on university committees and participate in campus-wide initiatives.  

  • Support the mission of the University and the Institute of Technologies Department.  

  • Maintain office hours in accordance with departmental and faculty contract requirements.  

  • Adhere to all policies and procedures of Sinte Gleska University, including compliance with FERPA, HIPAA, ADA.  

  • Participate in the design, development, evaluation, and continuous improvement of the  Construction Trades curriculum and program, in collaboration with the Department Chair and Director.  

  • Prepare and submit course syllabi and instructional materials in a timely manner.  

  • Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes and program effectiveness, including program reviews, semiannual and annual reports.  

  • Advise and mentor students enrolled in the Construction Trades program.  

  • Assist with student recruitment, outreach, and retention efforts.  

  • Fulfill all responsibilities outlined in the Sinte Gleska University faculty contract.  

  • Maintain required educational credentials, professional expertise, and demonstrated teaching competencies consistent with departmental and institutional standards.  

  • Adhere to all faculty duties and responsibilities outlined in the faculty contract and SGU policies and procedures. 

 

Minimum Qualifications & Experience

  • At a minimum, a certificate in Construction trades or building trades. Preferred: Associate of Applied Science degree in the construction trades-related field, or equivalent.  

  • Minimum of 5-10 plus years of professional experience in a related industry field.  

  • Minimum of five years of teaching experience in higher education or equivalent instructional experience.  

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 

  • Experience working with Native American students and communities.  

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented academic environment.  

  • Cultural competency and sensitivity when working with Lakota and Native American   

  • communities and organizations within reservation boundaries.  

  • Proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and Google Workspace applications.
