Position Title:                  Renewable Energy Instructor/Developer

Contract Term:               9-month Academic year

Accountable To:              Dean of CTE      

Salary:                               $64,011 minimum

Summary of Position:  The Renewable Energy Instructor provides high-quality instruction in renewable energy and related technical coursework for the Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) in Renewable Energy program. Responsibilities include instruction, curriculum development, assessment, advising, recruitment, retention, workforce alignment and full course management in Canvas.

 

The instructor also delivers community-based workshops and training to support workforce development, energy literacy, and sustainable practices within the Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa and surrounding communities.

 

Key Responsibilities

Instruction & Student Learning

·       Develop and teach courses in renewable energy, including solar, wind, energy efficiency and related technologies.

·       Provide culturally responsive instruction that integrates Indigenous perspectives on land, sustainability and natural resource stewardship.

·       Prepare course syllabi, instructional materials, assignments and assessments aligned with program outcomes and workforce competencies.

·       Maintain accurate academic records and full course management in Canvas.

·       Provide timely feedback and academic support to promote student success, retention, and completion.

 

Community Workshops & Outreach

·       Plan and deliver hands-on community workshops in renewable energy and energy efficiency.

·       Support community awareness of sustainable energy practices and technologies.

·       Collaborate with tribal programs, schools and community partners to expand outreach and impact.

 

Advising & Retention

·       Provide academic and career advising to students from entry through program completion.

·       Assist with recruitment through outreach events, community engagement and partnerships with energy and workforce organizations.

·       Monitor student progress and implement culturally responsive retention strategies.

·       Support workforce preparation, including resume development, internships and job placement connections.

 

Curriculum Development

·       Develop, review and update curriculum to reflect current renewable energy technologies and industry standards.

·       Align curriculum with entry-level workforce competencies and certifications where applicable.

 

 

 

·       Integrate sustainability, tribal energy sovereignty and environmental responsibility into coursework.

·       Collaborate with industry partners, tribal programs and faculty to ensure curriculum relevance.

·       Create hands-on and performance-based assessments that reflect real-world applications.

 

Canvas Course Development

·       Build and maintain complete Canvas course shells, including modules, assignments, discussions and assessments.

·       Ensure accessibility and compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.

·       Monitor student engagement and provide timely instructional and technical support.

 

Assessment & Student Learning Outcomes

·       Develop, assess, and report student learning outcomes, including Indigenous student learning outcomes.

·       Evaluate student performance using projects, labs, fieldwork and technical demonstrations.

·       Use assessment results to improve instruction, curriculum and student support services.

 

Program, Institutional & Service Responsibilities

·       Establish and maintain partnerships with renewable energy companies, tribal programs, utilities and workforce agencies.

·       Organize and participate in advisory board meetings.

·       Support internships, apprenticeships and community-based learning opportunities.

·       Participate in accreditation, assessment, recruitment and continuous improvement initiatives.

·       Support student organizations, outreach events and sustainability initiatives.

·       Participate in college events, professional development and committees.

·       Remain current with renewable energy technologies and workforce trends.

·       Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Scholarship & Professional Development

·       Engage in ongoing professional development in renewable energy technologies and sustainability practices.

·       Contribute to program development through partnerships, grants, training initiatives, and applied projects.

 

Minimum Qualifications

·       Bachelor’s degree in renewable energy, electrical technology, engineering, environmental science or related field

·       Three (3) years of relevant experience in renewable energy, electrical systems or related industry

·       Ability to travel, work flexible hours, and support field-based instruction and community workshops

 

Preferred Qualifications

·       Master’s degree in renewable energy, engineering or related field

·       Industry certifications (e.g., solar installation, energy systems, or electrical)

·       Teaching or training experience in technical or workforce programs

·       Experience working with tribal communities or rural energy systems
