General Summary:
The role of the faculty is to facilitate individual and group opportunities of learning that allow students to meet the educational outcomes of the BSN Nursing Program. To achieve these outcomes, faculty and students form a partnership in an atmosphere of care and mutual respect.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
I. Tutoring 60%
A. Plan, prepare, and organize a variety of culturally relevant tutoring strategies and support for nursing students one-on-one or small groups.
B. Plan and supervise learning activities for students
C. Maintain scheduled office hours and availability to assist students with learning difficulties
D. Respond to students in a timely manner
E. Participate in retention program planning and development
II. Lab assisting 15%
A. Assist lab instructor with restocking, cleaning lab supplies, and setting up lab stations.
B. Provide student assistance at lab stations
C. Assist lab instructor with monitoring students during open lab hours
D. Assist with competency check-offs
III. Teaching 10%
A. Plan, prepare, and organize a variety of culturally relevant teaching/learning strategies and instructional material for classroom, clinical, lab, and/or simulation
B. Instruct students in classroom, clinical, lab, and/or simulation under the oversight of master’s prepared faculty.
C. Prepare and maintain student records related to course room and learning activities.
D. Maintain scheduled office hours and availability to assist students with learning difficulties.
E. Responsible for: completing the syllabus according to department and college guidelines, placement of all course documents on Brightspace, posting final grades to JICS, and posting all course documents to Google Drive/Docs
F. Participate in problem solving of student, course, exam, and department issues and other issues as they arise.
G. Participate in the development and evaluation of Nursing Department policies and procedures. Participate in ongoing assessment and revision of the Student Nurse Handbook.
H. Participate in Community Partner meetings.
I. Attend nursing department meetings; responsible for various action plans arising from department meetings. Responsible for reporting back to the team on solutions/outcomes in the areas of responsibility.
J. Demonstrate proficiency in Learning Management System, instructional technology, computer programs, and other computerized teaching tools as needed for their particular Rev. 3.23.2026 mlf 2 POSITION DESCRIPTION Academic Year: 2025/2026 Contract Length: Part-time - 29 hours/week for 30 weeks areas of responsibility in didactic and/or clinical.
K. Demonstrate teamwork; assist others, communicate and collaborate to contribute to the overall functioning of the department.
L. Mentoring new faculty as assigned.
M. Other duties as assigned.
IV. Advising 5%
A. Advise students on a program of study.
B. Refer students to appropriate college and community resources.
C. Assist students in the course registration process.
D. Help students explore their program of study and specific courses based on the students’ short and long-term career and educational plans.
V. College Service 5%
A. Serve on college committees as appropriate.
B. Participate in college activities for students.
C. Participate in college and reservation-wide cultural activities.
D. Attend college-wide staff/faculty meetings and in-services.
VI. Professional Development 5%
A. Participate in professional organizations.
B. Achieve advanced degrees and certification.
C. Maintain proficiency in areas of responsibility of teaching and/or clinical practice.
D. Attends selected professional development activities.
E. Utilizes ongoing peer review in self-evaluation.
Required Qualifications:
The applicant shall hold an unencumbered, active license as a Registered Nurse in Montana or be eligible to apply for one via reciprocity from another state.
The applicant shall hold a minimum of a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree. A Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) degree is preferred.
Experience with tutoring, teaching, and/or lab instruction is preferred.
