General Summary:

The Housing Maintenance Technician is responsible for supporting the maintenance, safety, and overall functionality of SKC Student Housing facilities and its surrounding areas. This position performs general building maintenance, repairs, and upkeep of housing units, dormitories, and common areas to ensure a safe and well-maintained living environment for residents. This role functions as an equal member of the Housing Maintenance team and operates under the direct supervision of the Director of Housing. This position is not supervisory in nature and is expected to work efficiently and collaboratively within a team-based environment while maintaining accountability for individual assigned tasks.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:         

·         Clean and maintain SKC Student Housing properties including; the laundry facilities, shared commons, dorms, housing units, storage units, maintenance office, and minor grounds maintenance (general pick up of garbage/trash).

·         Complete repairs to maintain SKC Housing properties in good repair, which may include appliance repair, plumbing, electrical, furniture, painting, drywall, and floor repair.

·         Work efficiently and effectively as an equal member of the Housing Maintenance team, collaborating with other maintenance technicians and staff to ensure timely completion of work orders and assignments.

·         Complete Dorm(s) and unit inspections during the move-in/move-out process and at request ensuring complete and accurate documentation of findings.

·         Stocking and preparing Dorms for move-in.

·         Assist in training and supporting student employee(s) within the Housing Department in collaboration with the Director of Housing

·         Assist with outside contractors and vendors in collaboration with the Director of Housing.

·         Accept assignments

·         Coordinate weekly with the Director of Housing and Housing staff to provide updates and progress reports on all assignments and duties.

·         Attend all mandatory meetings and complete all mandatory training.

·         Complete the Clery (CSA) Training within 60 days of hire.

·         Become familiar and follow SKC and SKC Student Housing policies and procedures.

·         Maintain and upkeep of SKC vehicles in coordination with SKC Transportation Department (check fluids and keep clean).

·         Must maintain professional demeanor when interacting with students and employees including not engaging in confrontational or escalated communication.

·         Quarterly performance reviews of assignments, work order completion time, documentation compliance, tool inventory audit accuracy, and vehicle compliance.

·         All purchases of tools, equipment, parts, fuel, or supplies must receive prior written approval from the Director of Housing.

·         Be accountable for tools, supplies, and equipment used in housing including but not limited to keeping them in good working condition, reporting issues within 48 hours, and keeping good records and inventory. All tools, supplies and equipment will be maintained on SKC property and available when needed.

·         Maintain progress through the Kissflow system.

·         Other duties as assigned provided they align with approved housing maintenance scope and policy.

Qualifications:

·         High School Diploma or GED.

·         Valid Montana Driver’s License.

·         Three years’ experience in building repairs, including experience with plumbing and electrical.

·         Six months experience in general house cleaning.

·         Previous experience in building construction.

·         Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; e.g. with vendors, students, staff, and the public.

·         Good organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks.

·         Ability to use computer systems.

·         Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a team environment while maintaining accountability for individual assignments.

·         Ability to collaborate respectfully with all maintenance technicians as an equal member.

·         Work hours must be flexible to allow for working weekdays, weekends, days, evenings and holidays as needed due to emergency situations.

·         Physically demanding position, the individual must be able to lift heavy objects over 50 lbs. and work in all types of weather.

·         Experience with appliance repair is preferred, but not required.
