Truck Driving Instructor-FT (9 month)

Job Description

General Summary:

Assist in providing instruction for students in the basic principles of truck driving.  Operating procedures, proper pre-start procedures, basic preventative maintenance, and safe operating practice. Instruction is intended to produce safe, entry-level drivers.  Insure safety of participants and others on projects & work areas.  Maintain a safe, clean work environment.  Must have ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

·         Classroom and Field instruction of students in area’s necessary to attain the objectives of syllabus.

·         Insure safety of participants and others on projects & work areas.

·         Evaluate student progress with feedback to students and supervisor.

·         Maintain training and project experience records.

·         Report possible work projects to supervisor for final approval.

·         Report perceived problems of concerns to Department Head with potential solutions.

·         Position may require assisting other departments as needed upon supervisor approval.

·         Work with local high school administrators to develop pathways into the highway construction and trucking industry. 

·         Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Class “A” CDL, with current medical certificate. Dbl/tr, tank and Hazmat endorsements preferred.

·         Minimum of 2 years of verifiable driving experience with 5 years preferred.

·         Ability to perform preventative maintenance and field repairs; discuss major repairs with supervisor.

·         Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse student populations and fellow employees.

·         Ability to remain calm in stressful situations.

·         Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
