The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) and College of Human Sciences (CHS) at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa seek a Professor and Department Chair of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition (FSHN). Applications are sought for a visionary leader with demonstrated capacity to lead this department in all its mission areas – research, teaching, extension and outreach. Candidates are expected to demonstrate a commitment to excellence and innovation in the education of undergraduate and graduate students, interdisciplinary/transdisciplinary research, extension and outreach, and the enhancement of diversity, equity and inclusion across all mission areas.

 Required qualifications include Ph.D. or equivalent in any of the areas of expertise in the department, or a closely aligned field, and a record of scholarly accomplishment consistent with an advanced tenured associate professor or professor to qualify for tenure in CHS or CALS at the rank of Professor. Preferred skills include demonstrated capability in budget/fiscal management of a substantial unit such as an academic department, college or university-level center or institute; in personnel management, including recruitment, advancement and retention of faculty, staff and students; in curricular planning and development, knowledge of accreditations, and understanding of advancing research and extension and outreach enterprises; in diversity, equity and inclusion, and team-building for research, teaching, and extension and outreach; and working with external stakeholders, and building and expanding partnerships and coalitions with public and private organizations.

 Initial Department Chair appointment is for five years as a 12-month appointment. This position has expected percentages of 70% administrative and 30% in some combination of research, teaching, extension and outreach, and service. Proposed start date is August 15, 2022.
