University of Oklahoma

Assistant Professor, Tenure Track

Digital Video Storytelling and Production

The Gaylord College of Journalism and Mass Communication at the University of Oklahoma seeks outstanding candidates for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Digital Video Storytelling and Production, beginning Fall 2022, to join an award-winning program in Creative Media Production.

The strategic plan for Creative Media Production stresses a combination of skill sets tied to both legacy media forms—narrative, documentary, corporate—and more cutting-edge media applications, such as mobile, interactive, and online storytelling.

We would be particularly interested in applicants who can bring a knowledge of production and authorship from underrepresented positions, such as specialization in Latinx or other BIPOC perspectives. The candidate's research or creative work may include, but would not be limited to, innovative media content with a specific eye on digital storytelling platforms.

The position will help prepare students in both skills and conceptual learning. The Gaylord College ranks among the top in the nation in creative media production awards over the last five years in Broadcast Education Association competitions. Our vision and our curriculum in the college are grounded in the effort to nurture storytellers.

The candidate would also have opportunities to teach at the graduate level and mentor students through master's theses or projects and Ph.D. dissertations, if qualified.

Qualifications

A master’s degree and professional experience in digital media production or experience teaching media production are required.

Preference will be given top candidates holding a Ph.D. or MFA, and teaching experience.  Preference will also be given to candidates whose creative or scholarly work demonstrates knowledge of film and television production and authorship from underrepresented positions, such as Latinx or BIPOC perspectives. All applicants are expected to establish and achieve a program of high-quality research or creative/professional activities.

Preference for expertise in teaching audio, single camera production, multi-camera production and/or post-production.

Candidates of ethnically diverse backgrounds, including, but not limited to, BIPOC, Asian Americans and Latinx are particularly urged to apply.  The university welcomes the creativity and unique contributions which diversity offers to students preparing to work in a diverse society.
