Join our team in Alaska and protect its natural resources! The Chugach Regional Resources Commission serves seven Alaskan tribes in environmental sustainability, and subsistence food projects. The VISTA project will build the capacity of the Chugach Regional Resources Commission (CRRC) by developing a sustainable natural resource and environmental management program, including determining natural resource areas of interests and priorities, developing vulnerability and risk assessments, developing outreach and partnership strategies, and supporting resource development.
The VISTA will finalize CRRC’s ongoing vulnerability assessment and prepare CRRC for the distribution and analysis of the assessment. The VISTA will help sustain a good working relationship with CRRC’s seven communities, will develop workshop plans, and help conduct an information gathering workshop with Tribal leaders.
The member will support partnerships with communities and organizations to spread the word about CRRC, maintaining a database of partnerships and outreach, attending relevant events, and developing targeted marketing materials.
The member will contribute to an ongoing effort to better understand shellfish aquaculture in Alaska, the impact of changes in aquatic chemistry on traditional foods, and effective engagement mechanisms with Tribes and Tribal members around issues of traditional food and climate science. To this end, the VISTA will take part in ocean acidification research & monitoring and build the capacity of the shellfish hatchery, among other activities.
