Join Our Team as a Pre-College GED Instructor at Tohono O'odham Community College!

Are you a passionate educator with a knack for helping students reach their full potential? Tohono O'odham Community College (TOCC) is seeking a Pre-College GED Instructor to develop and deliver an engaging academic curriculum. In this full-time, exempt position, you'll be a vital part of our Workforce & Community Development team, reporting to the Chair of that department.

Annual Salary: Up to $60,000 

What You'll Do

As a GED Instructor, you'll be responsible for a variety of tasks that support our students' success:

  • Prepare and administer a GED curriculum to help students pass the official Arizona Department of Education exam. This includes creating lesson plans, developing testing materials, and facilitating study sessions and workshops.
  • Mentor and advise students, create individual learning plans, and track their attendance and progress. You'll also develop individual performance profiles for each subject and evaluate their overall performance.
  • Use technology like smart boards, Zoom, and the Google platform to teach students in both virtual and in-person settings.
  • Provide GED testing and pre-testing on a rotating basis across the 11 districts of the Tohono O'odham Nation and surrounding communities. You will also attend and present at community and legislative sessions to discuss program offerings and data.
  • Lead the planning and development of the annual TOCC GED conference. You may also assist with preparing class schedules and course offerings and help with the recruitment, retention, and graduation of GED students.

Requirements

Who We're Looking For

The ideal candidate will have strong customer service, communication, and instructional support skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in Education or a related field.
  • Certification or eligibility for an Adult Education Certification.
  • An Arizona Teaching certificate.
  • A valid state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Must pass a criminal background check and have a fingerprinting clearance card.
  • Comfortable with traveling to Tohono O'odham district sites.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Master's degree in education and two years of experience teaching an adult education program.
  • The ability to speak and understand O'odham and/or Spanish.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.

Work Environment & Schedule

This is a full-time position with expected hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional nights and weekends may be required based on district leadership requests, with compensatory time provided for extended hours.

The role is considered "light work," which involves occasionally lifting up to 20 pounds. You should also be prepared for activities that occur both indoors and outdoors, including in temperatures above 100 degrees.
