TOCC is looking for a dedicated and culturally responsive Behavioral Health Counselor to join our Student Services Division. This full-time, exempt position offers an opportunity to support student success and contribute to an inclusive campus environment. 

Hiring Salary Range: $60,350 - $67,592.

What You Will Do

  • As the Behavioral Health Counselor, you will be a vital part of the Counseling Department, providing comprehensive support to our students.
  • Provide Culturally Responsive Counseling: Deliver mental health counseling, clinical case management, and crisis intervention, while also advising students on personal and academic matters.
  • Support Student Success: Conduct assessments, create individualized treatment plans, and facilitate wraparound sessions with students and instructors to ensure students have the support they need. You will also provide referrals to behavioral health programs when necessary.
  • Lead Title IX Compliance: Coordinate efforts to comply with Title IX regulations, including leading investigations, writing reports on sex discrimination and sexual misconduct, determining findings of fact, and overseeing training for students, staff, and faculty.
  • Assist with Disability Services: Collaborate with the Disability Resource Coordinator to assist with disability services for students.
  • Conduct Outreach and Education: Arrange and provide educational workshops and presentations on behavioral and mental health topics for students, staff, faculty, and community members.
  • Collaborate Across Campus and Community: Work with internal departments, external agencies, and the general public to coordinate activities, exchange information, and create a comprehensive and inclusive support system.

Requirements

What you will bring:

  • Clinical Skills: Knowledge of counseling theories and techniques proven to support college students , and experience handling crisis management situations.
  • Interpersonal Skills: Strong communication, empathy, and listening skills.
  • Legal & Ethical Knowledge: The ability to research, interpret, and apply applicable Federal, State, and local laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Cultural Competence: Demonstrated cultural competence and familiarity with Indigenous/Native student populations.
  • Core Abilities: Strong problem-solving skills , knowledge of academic advising principles , and proficiency with relevant computer software applications. 

Required Qualifications:

  • A Master’s degree in Counseling, Social Work (MSW), Marriage & Family Therapy, Clinical Psychology, or a closely related field.
  • One year of experience in counseling.
  • One year of experience in the field of education.
  • Licensure: Must possess one of the following licenses: LPC, LCSW, LMFT, LMSW, or Licensed Psychologist.
  • A valid state Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • The ability to successfully pass a criminal background check and present or obtain a valid fingerprint clearance card. 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to speak and understand the O’odham and/or Spanish languages.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the history and contemporary issues facing Native people.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Schedule: Typical work hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. However, work outside of these typical hours may be required based on the needs of the students.
  • Physical Demands: This position primarily involves working in a typical office or administrative setting with no substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. The work involves close visual acuity, such as viewing a computer terminal and extensive reading.
  • Supervisory: There are no supervisory responsibilities for this position.
