General Summary:
The Experiential Learning Coordinator provides leadership and oversight of all experiential learning activities within the nursing program, including the Clinical, Skills Lab and the Simulation Lab. This position ensures alignment with the curriculum, quality standards, accreditation requirements, and best practices in experiential education. The Coordinator works collaboratively with faculty, staff, students, and external partners to ensure high-quality, hands-on learning experiences that prepare students for clinical practice.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Coordination & Leadership – 60%
Coordinate and manage clinical placements for nursing students in collaboration with healthcare organizations.
Meet regularly with Student Placement Representatives, Academic Program Educators, Clinical Instructors, and Preceptors to align clinical requirements with SKC learning outcomes.
Hold weekly check-ins with Clinical Instructors to address student progress, resolve concerns, and ensure integration of clinical and classroom learning.
Identify and prepare clinical instructors and preceptors ensuring they are informed of SKC guidelines and expectations.
Plan and facilitate orientation for Clinical Instructors and students at each clinical site.
Maintain strong, ongoing relationships with clinical site representatives to stay current on procedures, equipment, and site expectations.
Oversee and manage all Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs), including renewals, documentation, and contact records.
Ensure all student compliance requirements (e.g., background checks, CPR, immunizations, site-specific documents) are met before clinical rotations.
Maintain accurate and compliant records for clinical placements in accordance with ACEN and State Board of Nursing standards.
Collect and analyze student evaluations of clinical sites to guide future placement decisions.
Participate in nursing faculty and advisory committee meetings to provide updates on clinical education.
Simulation and Skill Lab Oversight - 20%
Provide strategic leadership and operational oversight of the Clinical Skills Lab and the Simulation Lab.
Supervise the Clinical Skills Lab Instructor, including scheduling, evaluation, and support in curriculum delivery.
Serve as the primary liaison with the contracted simulation company; monitor and evaluate performance, ensuring delivery aligns with academic and programmatic goals.
Collaborate with nursing faculty to align experiential learning activities with course objectives and student learning outcomes.
Ensure that lab and simulation experiences reflect current clinical standards, technologies, and best practices in nursing education.
Support curriculum development by recommending new experiential learning strategies and integrating innovative simulation modalities.
Monitor and assess the effectiveness of skills and simulation learning activities; lead efforts in continuous improvement based on student feedback, faculty input, and outcome data.
Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and performance metrics for experiential learning.
Ensure compliance with accreditation standards (e.g., ACEN) and simulation best practices.
Oversee inventory management and maintenance of clinical equipment and simulation technology.
Faculty and Staff Development - 5%
Provide onboarding, training, and ongoing professional development for Clinical Skill Lab Staff and Clinical Instructors.
Collaborate with the simulation vendor to ensure contracted staff remain current in simulation pedagogy and technology.
Support faculty in effective integration of simulation and lab-based instruction as pertinent to courses.
Community Relationships - 15%
Serve as a professional ambassador for Salish Kootenai College Nursing, fostering strong, positive relationships with healthcare partners and community stakeholders.
Engage regularly with clinical agencies and healthcare organizations to stay informed on current nursing practice standards, workforce needs, and emerging trends in the profession.
Promote and support experiential learning opportunities by cultivating new clinical partnerships and strengthening existing ones.
Collaborate with healthcare partners to identify job placement opportunities and career pathways for graduating students.
Represent the nursing program at community meetings, job fairs, and professional events to enhance visibility and partnership development.
Actively contribute to regional and statewide conversations around nursing education and workforce development.
