WORK SCHEDULE: Monday through Friday 7:30am - 4:30pm

COMPENSATION: $30.01/hour + DOE + Benefits, Non-Exempt Position

SUMMARY OF POSITION: 

The Maintenance Specialist II is responsible for performing routine and advanced maintenance and repair tasks across campus facilities and grounds. This includes work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, and other general trades. The role also involves responding to emergencies, operating heavy equipment, and ensuring all work is performed in a safe, efficient, and professional manner.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Inspect facilities, equipment, and grounds to identify repair needs, potential improvements, and opportunities for preventive maintenance.
  • Maintain all facilities and equipment in a clean, orderly, and safe condition.
  • Perform a wide range of maintenance and repair tasks, including carpentry, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems, using appropriate tools and equipment.
  • Interpret and work from schematics, blueprints, and technical diagrams.
  • Operate heavy equipment as needed, including but not limited to a 950 loader, backhoe, skid steer loader, and forklifts.
  • Provide immediate response to alarms, system failures, and emergency repair needs, including being available for on-call duties.
  • Complies with all College policies and procedures, as well as applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Proven maintenance experience in Arctic or similarly challenging environments.
  • Strong understanding of construction-related safety practices and protocols.
  • Experience training others in general construction and safe work procedures.
  • Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness and ability to travel periodically.
  • Clean driving record (DMV report) required before employment.
  • Demonstrated ability to interact effectively in a multicultural environment.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of one or more of the following: post-secondary education systems, North Slope Borough institutions and organizations, and Iñupiat culture, language, and values.
  • Ability to interpret and represent North Slope community values, customs, and beliefs for the College.
  • Ability to interpret and represent College actions and western institutions to the North Slope community.
  • Ability to support Iḷisaġvik College’s mission.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Required]:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in building maintenance and construction.

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATES/TRAINING [Preferred]:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent training in a related field.
  • Associated Construction Trades Endorsement.
  • Current Hazardous Materials (HazMat) certification.
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL), or the ability to obtain one within 180 days of hire.
