About KBOCC: Celebrating its 50th anniversary, KBOCC is a tribally chartered, land-grant institution dedicated to providing holistic education that promotes Anishinaabe culture, language, and lifeways. The college offers a range of associate degree programs and vocational education, maintaining a 7:1 student-to-faculty ratio. KBOCC is committed to student success, community engagement, and cultural preservation.

Position Overview: The President serves as the chief executive officer of KBOCC, responsible for strategic leadership and daily operations. This role requires an inspirational, transparent, and visionary leader dedicated to fostering a shared vision and trust within the college and the broader community.

Key Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning and Growth: Develop and implement a student-centered vision and strategy to guide the college's future, expanding program and course offerings—including online courses—that align with community needs and cultural preservation goals.

Academic Excellence: Enhance academic quality by supporting faculty development, promoting innovative teaching methods, and ensuring the integration of Anishinaabe culture and language into curricula.

Community and Cultural Engagement: Strengthen relationships with the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community and other stakeholders, promoting cultural events and initiatives that preserve and celebrate Anishinaabe heritage.

Operational Management: Oversee the college's administrative functions, ensuring financial stability, effective resource allocation, and compliance with relevant policies and regulations.

Student Success: Implement strategies to improve student retention, graduation rates, and overall success, fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Qualifications:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution; doctorate preferred.
  • Proven experience in higher education leadership, preferably within a tribal or community college setting.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values and mission of tribal education and cultural preservation.
  • Strong financial acumen and experience with institutional budgeting and resource management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse communities and stakeholders.
