Job Title: Natural Resources Instructor
Reports To: Academic Dean
Status: Full-time/ Regular/ Salary
Salary: $47,701 - $77,817 (DOE) annual


SUMMARY: The Natural Resources Faculty Member will be responsible for teaching courses
in natural resources and general biology in a tribal community college setting.
Teaching assignments may include evening classes with in-person, hybrid, and
online formats. The successful candidate will be expected to design curriculum,
participate in student assessment, engage in professional development,
committee work, advising of students, and other faculty activities. The instructor
will support the T-So:son (Our Core Values) including T-Wohocudadag – Our
Beliefs, T-Apedag – Our Well-Being, T-Pi:k Elida – Our Deepest Respect and IWe:mta – Working Together.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Instructs students in appropriate modes of instructional delivery, including
    face to face classroom, online asynchronous, online synchronous via Zoom,
    etc. in an assigned area of responsibility. A normal teaching load is 15
    semester hours in the Fall and Spring semesters.
  • Ensures applicable program of study core competencies are taught and
    assessed ; develops, revises, and regularly updates courses and course syllabi;
    plans learning activities appropriate to the course content, effectively engages
    students in the teaching/learning environment created in all instructional
    modalities, and grades assignments and other learning assessments completed
    by students individually and/or in a group learning setting in a timely manner;
    regularly assesses student learning progress to “assist, adjust, and/or advance”
    student success; evaluates overall student performance, including course
    content, learning elements, and student success rates within each course each
    semester.
  • Implements student-centered pedagogy and maintains the teaching/learning
    focus in all instructional modalities on student learning outcomes at the
    course, program, and institutional levels; effectively assess and maximize
    student achievement at all times.
  • Develops Tohono O’odham culture appropriate learning elements in all curriculum; implement, and integrate the T-So:son (Our Core Values) and Tohono O’odham Himdag in all courses.
  • Maintain accessible office hours (1 hour per course per week in all learning modalities which teaching load incorporates) and actively participate in college committee and service activities as discussed and agreed upon with the Academic Dean.
  • Maintain rigor, relevancy, and professional relationship with the discipline or disciplines in which assigned to teach; actively pursue lifelong learning opportunities as a faculty member in new and/or revised instructional pedagogies, effective classroom engagement and assessment techniques, and emerging and/or evolving educational philosophies.
  • May assist in the preparation of schedules and course offerings within department and programs of study,
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level as assigned by Academic Dean.

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Natural Resources, Biology or related field, or masters in
    any teaching field with 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching field;
  • Experience with multimedia presentation and online course development and teaching;
  • Three to five years of experience teaching natural resources and general biology in an academic environment.
  • Experience in curriculum development.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student success.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in the teaching field.
  • Ability to set up and manage science labs.
  • Ability to speak and understand O’odham and/or Spanish.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the historical and contemporary issues facing Native peoples.

LICENSING REQUIREMENTS

  • Valid Driver’s license with no DUI's or major traffic offences within the past two years.
  • Must successfully pass a background check and fingerprint clearance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • TOCC is a tribal college located on the Tohono O’odham Nation, 60 miles west of
    Tucson. The instructor will work closely with members of the Tohono O’odham Nation within a multicultural setting.
