Job Purpose
As a key contributor to student success, provides guidance and services on academic and career
goals for prospective and current students for the Early Childhood Multicultural Education Head
Start Program. Academic monitoring, attends to student academic inquiries, assists in the
resolution of individual academic problems. Develops and maintains appropriate student files
and records. Coordinates special events for the TCU Partnership Head Start student participants.
It is important to note, this is a grant-funded, temporary position. Multi-year grants are funded
based on the fiscal years for the full grant period. However, there is no guarantee that funding is
available year after year from the awarding agencies. Employment with the college after the grant-funded period is not assured. Grant-funded positions cannot guarantee a payout of leave
benefits.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Advising and recruitment
● Provide individual semester long support, assess student's strengths and needs,
and devise a plan of action to study smarter by developing skills in time
management, test taking, stress management, reading strategies and balancing
work and school.
● Empowering students toward positive behavior changes as it relates to academic
concerns and barriers to success by connecting to the University Student Services
and outside resources.
● Collaborate with the Dine Studies and/or Navajo Head Start to provide five professional development workshops in Dine Language and Culture, for the Fall and Spring semesters.
● Assesses the student's stage of development (academic, career, and personal)
and promotes student growth by determining suitable developmental tasks;
advises student in establishing realistic and attainable academic and career goals
to ensure successful progress to completion of degree program, includes assisting
students in the formal application for employment with Navajo Head Start.
● Collaborate with the NTU registrar and Academic advisors to identify students who are in need of academic coaching and provide intervention services for students to track progress and follow-up periodically to ensure academic success.
● Work with the ECME faculty to ensure students understand the learning outcomes and facilitate activities for student achievement.
● Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and grant PI to strengthen the partnership between the University and the Navajo Head Start/Zuni Head Start program for proper planning and implementation of all grant initiatives.
● Program management to assist the Program Coordinator/Grant PI, with placing orders and distribution of supplies, materials, fuel cards, food cards, stipends (mid-term, finals and professional career development)
● Maintains students' academic files that include a record of the coaching activity that takes place during each visit.
● Assist Program Coordinator with posting TCU benefits to student accounts and keep proper records of all funding posted to student accounts.
● Assist with coordinating data compilation, statistical reports and correspondence, depending
upon the area of assignment.
● 80% of the duties will be performed on-site with the Grant PI, students, and commuting to NTU Instructional Sites at NTU Main and 20% will be conducted remotely.
● Performs other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Work study students as requested by the ECME Academic Coaches.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
● Bachelor's Degree in Education, or related field.
● Have excellent oral and written communication skills, trained to facilitate sessions.
● Possess two or more years of teaching experience, with a record of successfully
impacting student achievement and working successfully with students who have
the greatest needs.
● Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with colleagues, including the
ability to create and nurture a professional community of adult learners.
● Experience using Zoom, or other online conferencing platform
● Must be able to pass a background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be required to sit for
prolonged periods, walk and stand.
● Use hands for dexterity of motion, repetitive movement of both hands.
● Have normal auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.
● The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
● Work is generally performed in office setting and some outside tours with normal
noise level.
● Exposure to the elements during campus tours.
● Usage of surgical masks, safety goggles, gloves and protective face shields may
occur.
● Tight time constraints and multiple demands are common.
● Evening and/or weekend work may be required. Extended hours and irregular
shifts may be required.
