Position:          Research Manager

General Description

Aaniiih Nakoda College is seeking a Research Manager for the Aaniiih Nakoda ʔíítaanɔ́ɔ́nʔí /Tatága (Buffalo) Research and Education Center to lead the development of a data management plan while also helping to build staff/intern competency in the continued management and use of data generated from ongoing ecological research activities. The Research Manager will play a critical role in facilitating student engagement in data management and analysis, serve as an onsite mentor for students working on independent projects (writing and analysis), and teach at least one class per semester. The Research Manager shall maintain competency and knowledge of current research, practices, and trends in the field of ecology as well as ongoing Center research initiatives. The Research Manager shall actively participate in college life and activities. Benefits: Paid holidays, health, dental and vision insurance, 401K.

Under the supervision of the Dean of Academic Affairs and the Director of Buffalo Center, the Research Manager shall:

  • Coordinate with faculty and partners to create a monthly/seasonal schedule for all research activities, and arrange necessary logistics/permissions.
  • Work closely with Intern Program Manager to integrate interns into research activities (scheduling and supervision).
  • Lead the development of data management plan for ongoing Center research activities;
  • Help build institutional capacity for in-house genetics lab work under the Aaniiih Nakoda Ecology program;
  • Facilitate staff, intern, and student engagement in data management and analysis;
  • Facilitate the development and roll-out of 3-6 short educational sessions (1.5 hrs ea) that occur annually, designed to build Center staff and student competency in Excel and/or other data management tools;
  • Assist Center staff to supervise and mentor interns on data management and analysis aspects of independent student projects;
  • Participate in weekly meetings with Center staff and interns;
  • Participate in Aaniiih Nakoda ʔíítaanɔ́ɔ́nʔí /Tatága (Buffalo) Research and Center outreach and education activities;
  • Teach approximately 3-6 credit hours per semester;
  • Be willing to work with a full range of college students.

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of and unreserved commitment to Aaniiih Nakoda College’s mission statement;
  • Express knowledge and experience in the field of ecology;
  • Knowledge and proven skills in genetics lab work is preferred;
  • Ability to lead research studies and present results to scientific and general audiences;
  • Knowledge of project management;
  • Ability to work effectively with community partners and stakeholders;
  • Ability to teach research methodologies and analytical techniques;
  • Gifts of teaching and leadership both in the classroom and outside; and,
  • Ability to integrate academic and cultural understanding.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate preferred or Masters degree required in ecology or related field;
  • Experience conducting ecological research and/or monitoring programs;
  • Two years experience teaching at the postsecondary level;
  • Knowledge of the people, lifeways, history, geography, and educational needs of the Fort Belknap Indian Reservation.

Salary: Commensurate with experience and qualifications.
