General Summary:
The Division of Education at Salish Kootenai College seeks to hire a language/cultural specialist who is able to support faculty and staff within the division as they work to integrate Salish and/or Kootenai language and culture into the curriculum and courses they teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In addition, this position involves assisting with the planning and facilitating of Native Language focused events.
The successful candidate for this position will engage with all educational levels including early childhood centers, undergraduate, and graduate programs at the Division of Education. In addition, the candidate will serve as a language speaker, collaborator, and curriculum co-developer using the knowledge they hold. The candidate will also possess a desire and commitment to establish and maintain relationships that enable them to collaborate with the culture committees, Elders, cultural knowledge keepers, and reservation community.
Minimum Qualifications
As a language speaker and language educator, the successful candidate must hold a current Class 7 Certification in Salish and/or Kootenai or be able to obtain a letter of support from the appropriate culture committee stating that they have been approved by said culture committee and are currently applying for Class 7 Certification. Eminent scholar status would apply over the Class 7 Certification.
The candidate must possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a preference of a master’s in education or related field and have experience in working in educational setting(s); preferably in early childhood or preK-8 classroom settings.
This position requires working with college faculty and students in a professional, mutually respectful, positive, and encouraging manner. This is an on-campus position which requires engagement during regular SKC working hours.
