Vice President of Student Affairs

Associate Vice President of Engagement and Retention

Associate Vice President of Student Support Services

 

Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) invites nominations and applications for three senior-level positions within the division of Student Affairs: Vice President of Student Affairs, Associate Vice President of Engagement and Retention, and Associate Vice President of Student Support Services. The Vice President of Student Affairs reports directly to the President. Both Associate Vice President positions report directly to the Vice President of Student Affairs.

 

The Vice President of Student Affairs serves as NOVA’s chief student services officer. This position is charged with and held accountable for the overall management, planning, administration, and evaluation of the Student Affairs division’s programs, services, personnel, policies, procedures development, and budget. The Vice President is also responsible for developing, assessing, and leading NOVA’s strategic enrollment management plan and ensuring College offices work together to meet enrollment, retention, and completion targets.

 

The Associate Vice President of Engagement and Retention collaborates in a cross-divisional and cross-institutional approach to boost the campus engagement and co-curricular engagement of students. This position has oversight of Academic Advising, Student Life Engagement and Leadership, Student Rights and Responsibilities, Threat Assessment, and Strategic Planning.

 

The Associate Vice President of Student Support Services develops, implements, and assesses programs and services to produce high-quality results to meet strategic priorities and advocate for comprehensive support services and resources that address the unique needs of diverse student populations. This position has oversight of Accommodations and Accessibility, Military and Veteran Services, Wellness and Mental Health, Financial Stability and Advocacy, and Grants and Special Programs.

Qualifications

Vice President of Student AffairsMinimum qualifications include an earned doctorate from a regionally accredited college or university and at least four years of progressive administrative experience in student services/affairs, or related experience in higher education, including supervisory experience. A doctorate in educational leadership, higher education leadership, counseling, or a closely related field and previous experience in a community college environment are preferred.

Associate Vice President of Engagement and Retention: A Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs/services, or a closely related field is required; a doctoral degree is preferred. Several years of progressively responsible experience in student support services or related areas, including leadership and supervisory roles; three or more years of experience working in the community college setting is preferred.

Associate Vice President of Student Support Services: Minimum qualifications include a Master's degree in higher education administration, student affairs/services, or a closely related field. (degrees must be from a regionally accredited institution); several years of progressively responsible experience in student support services or related areas, including leadership and supervisory roles; strong knowledge of best practices and current trends in student support services; familiarity with relevant laws, regulations, and ethical standards in higher education; excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders and build effective partnerships; and strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
