Associate/Full Professor of Public Administration
The Department of Community Development and Applied Economics (CDAE) at the University of Vermont invites applicants for the position of Director of the Master of Public Administration program. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE) 9-month, tenure track position at the Associate or Full level, along with 1-month per year summer salary for service as MPA Director (renewable after 3 years, or transferrable after 3 years to another MPA faculty member). CDAE is a transdisciplinary department housed in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. Our nationally accredited MPA program holds a “Best Graduate Schools” distinction in public affairs by the U.S. News & World Report. In fulfillment of its land grant mission, UVM’s MPA Program inspires and equips students to foster a resilient, sustainable society by drawing on the traditions and innovative spirit of Vermont communities.
Applications will be reviewed beginning December 1, 2023, but will be accepted until the position is filled. The successful candidate is expected to start in August 2024. We are especially interested in applicants with demonstrated leadership experience, applied research interests in community resilience and sustainability, and experience working across academic disciplines. Qualified applicants must be established scholars at the Associate or Full Professor level and possess a Ph.D. in Public Administration, Public Management, Public Governance, or a closely related field at the time of appointment. Demonstrated experience engaging with state/local government, as well as demonstrated leadership experience required.
Responsibilities
The MPA Director is responsible for leading and growing the MPA Program over the long term; teaching graduate and undergraduate courses within the domains of public administration, public policy, and community resilience; advising transdisciplinary M.S. and Ph.D. students; and managing the program’s NASPAA reaccreditation process.
