The School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences (IAS) at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) has two open, full-time (100%) Assistant Teaching Professor (9-month service period) positions in Rhetoric and Composition with an anticipated start date of September 16, 2024. These positions will be expected to successfully teach first-year composition to students with a wide range of academic preparation and from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. Possible areas of focus for these positions include: writing program administration; writing across the curriculum; working with multilingual writers and/or second-language pedagogy. These positions will be expected to develop writing programs in collaboration with others, teach first-year writing, and integrate minority rhetorics into their teaching and scholarship
The primary responsibilities of this position will be teaching first-year composition, but this position may also work with UWB’s Academic Transition Program and/or teach up to two other interdisciplinary courses within the First Year and Pre-major Program (FYPP) and/or IAS. The position is a 9-month Teaching Track appointment, 100% FTE.

Assistant teaching professors are eligible for renewable multi-year appointments, promotion, and sabbatical, among other benefits available to full-time UW faculty members. First-year writing instructors are hired by the School of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences (IAS) to teach in the First Year and Pre-Major Programs (FYPP). FYPP is the home of UWB’s first and second year (or pre-major) students and curriculum, including our first-year writing courses. The FYPP mission (https://www.uwb.edu/premajor/about-us) is to support the successful transition to college of First Year and Pre-Major students and to provide the foundation on which they will continue scholarly and professional development and commits us to creating an inclusive and ethically responsible learning environment. This position, though working with FYPP, is hired and managed through the School of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences.

The base salary range for this position will be $70,400-77,500 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
