This position is part of the Haskell Indian Nations University, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE). As a Supervisory Instructor you will be responsible for serving as the Dean of the College of Humanities under the Art and Sciences in the Division of Academics at Haskell Indian Nations University.

As a Supervisory Instructor (Dean of Humanities)GS-1701-12, your typical work assignments may include the following:
  • Provides leadership and management for faculty and staff in all units and department within the College of Humanities.
  • Responsible for promoting and fostering an academic and intellectual climate that supports academic excellence.
  • Assists in the development and implantation of policies and procedures that support the mission framework the University
  • Makes frequent review of the College of Humanities operating costs and identifies any potential shortfalls or overruns.
  • Provides leadership in the development and oversight of faculty committees charged with developing educational materials and special initiative projects within the Division of Academics or College of Humanities.
  • Advises and assists faculty in the planning, creation, evaluation and assessment, validation and update of instructional and pedagogical materials and media.
  • Participates in evaluating the requirements for emerging technologies, system functionality, and delivery platforms to enhance delivery of instructional programs.

Applicants must meet the OPM approved alternative qualification requirements for professional instructor positions classified in the GS-1701 General Education and Training Series at Haskell Indian Nations University and the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute. BASIC REQUIREMENTS FOR SUPERVISORY INSTRUCTORS, GS-1701-11:
Master's Degree that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position (typically a degree in the field of Humanities);
OR
A master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in the field of Humanities.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications requirements below.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.
GS-12: 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 level in the Federal service that included administration at the post-secondary grade level. Examples of specialized experience include: serving as an academic dean in a university, college or a higher education institution with experience and responsibility for the planning, organizing, and directing of all operations, and evaluation of faculty and staff in the specialty field programs identified above; experience in teaching in a college/university setting; responsible for compliance and fulfilling all requirements for dual professional and higher education accreditation requirements as well as legal and regulatory requirements for all programs; experience in authoring professional and institutional documents as a lead author, communication of findings with a range of stakeholders, including researching, interpreting, analyzing data and findings for continuous improvement; and applying the proper guidelines, policies, regulations required to meet university and accreditation standards.
