The Department of Psychology at Occidental College invites applications for two tenure-track positions in Biological Psychology at the level of Assistant Professor or advanced Assistant Professor (eligible for early tenure). We seek an experimental scientist who studies the biological foundations of thought and behavior, broadly construed. Possible areas of specialization include psychophysiology, evolutionary psychology, comparative psychology, behavioral genetics, or clinical neuropsychology. The position involves teaching five undergraduate courses per year in a diverse liberal arts environment at the introductory level (e.g., Introduction to Psychology, Research Methods, Introduction to Statistics) and advanced level (e.g., Physiological Psychology, Perception, Learning, special topics seminars). The position also involves periodically contributing to First-Year Seminars in the College curriculum. Applicants have a strong commitment to teaching and demonstrated proficiency in carrying out an externally-fundable program of research that engages undergraduate students.
The successful applicant should also be committed to undergraduate student development and original empirical research. Occidental faculty are committed teacher-scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, and mentored projects. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, carry out research and creative work, and provide departmental, college-wide, and external service. Thus, you will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader college and disciplinary communities.
PhD in Psychology or a related field with an emphasis in Biological Psychology
Applicants should have their PhD completed by the time of appointment (Fall of 2023)

Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
