Job Description:

The Department of Natural Sciences at Baruch College, City University of New York, invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Environmental Studies, starting September 1, 2023. The candidate is expected to establish an externally funded research program that will complement the collaborative, interdisciplinary environment at the College and provide research opportunities for undergraduate students. We are seeking a candidate with teaching experience and research in any area of ecology from genomics through ecosystem science. Preference will be given to interdisciplinary scholars whose work interfaces with global climate change and/or environmental justice. Areas of expertise may include but are not limited to restoration ecology, urban forestry, biogeochemical cycling, wetland ecology, and urban biodiversity.

 

The Department of Natural Sciences offers general education courses for non-majors as well as a Biological Sciences Major (about 100 undergraduates) and minors in Chemistry, Environmental Sustainability, and Physics. Baruch College is in the vibrant Gramercy Park District of New York City. It is easily reached from the other boroughs of the City and New Jersey by car and public transportation. Its buildings include the 1929 Field Building and the modern Newman Vertical Campus completed in 2001. Qualifications:

Ph.D. degree in Environmental Studies/Ecology/Biology or a closely related field is required by September 1, 2023 when the appointment begins.
