Job Description

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation's Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). AIHEC provides leadership and influences public policy on American Indian and Alaska Native higher education issues through advocacy, research, and programmatic initiatives; promotes and strengthens Indigenous languages, cultures, communities, lands, and tribal nations; and through its unique position, serves member institutions and emerging TCUs.

Summary
The research coordinator will support the Institutional Research and Assessment Director work with the American Indian Higher Education Consortium’s (AIHEC) senior leadership team and the AIHEC Board of Directors’ Committee on Research to establish and operationalize the AIHEC Research Agenda, including the necessary research infrastructure to significantly advance the student success goals of AIHEC and our Tribal College and University (TCU) membership. In addition, the Coordinator will provide support to the TCUs to facilitate Tribal scholarship, knowledge creation, and sustainable research and assessment activities and engagement.

Essential Functions:

  • Work with AIHEC and the TCU leadership to define, create, facilitate, manage, and oversee AIHEC’s Research Agenda and research infrastructure, including research strategic planning, research data supply chain, research information technology infrastructure, and conducting and leading research initiatives.
  • Assist with the promotion and facilitation of leading-edge research, including collaborative and interdisciplinary research in areas related to AIHEC’s strategic plan and the AIHEC Research Agenda.
  • Assist with the management of research programs and projects towards successful outcomes: planning and conducting work, managing contributions, anticipating areas of challenge, looking for opportunities, and adjusting timelines and budge with support from the research coordinator and data team.
  • Assist in the establishment of necessary and appropriate compliance and Tribal/individual sovereignty and privacy protection policies for AIHEC’s research program.
  • Help build and sustain a community of innovative researchers to strengthen and sustain research capacity at the member TCUs and to increase research opportunities for TCU faculty and students.
  • Support the development and delivery of TCU professional development trainings
  • Support implementation of improvement programs at TCUs
  • Support the development of initiatives in improving the culture of research
  • Monitor the progress of research activities
  • Maintain and prepare updated records of research and research activities
  • Attend research-related training

Required Education, Experience and Attributes (minimum requirements):

  • Master’s preferred with an emphasis in education/social science research methods and design
  • Familiarity with recent research in fields such as higher education access, completion, and equity
  • Understanding of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) higher education issues, as well as issues regarding research AI/AN or other Indigenous communities and tribal nations
  • Ability to assist in development and evaluation of research plans and methods
  • Proactive team player
  • Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects
  • Program coordination experience
  • Research experience
  • Native Americans strongly encouraged to apply


This position reports to the Executive Director of Native Student Success

Travel: This position requires some travel
