Job Description

TITLE:                   Nursing Instructor
REPORTS TO:      Dean of Academics
SALARY:               DOE.
TOUR OF DUTY:  Generally, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Mon–Fri (may require some evenings)
SUPERVISES:      None

SUMMARY:
Demonstrate and teach patient care in classroom and clinical units to nursing students. Includes both teachers primarily engaged in teaching and those who do a combination of both teaching and research.

DUTIES AND REPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluates & grades students’ class work, laboratory and clinic work, assignments, and papers.
2. Prepare and deliver lectures to students on topics such as pharmacology, mental health nursing, and community health care practices.
3. Advise students on academic curricula, and on career issues.
4. Compile, administer, and grade examinations, or assign this work to others.
5. Compile bibliographies of specialized materials for outside reading assignments.
6. Demonstrate patient care in clinical units of hospitals. Initiate, facilitate, and moderate classroom discussions.
7. Keep abreast of developments in their field by reading current literature, talking with colleagues, and participating in professional conferences.
8. Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records
9. Plan, evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
10. Prepare course materials such as syllabi, homework assignments, and handouts.
11. Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks and laboratory equipment.
12. Supervise students’ laboratory and clinical work.

EDUCATION:
• Masters degree in nursing required.
• Current SD nursing license
• Previous teaching experience (minimum of one year)

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Planning, organizational, and time management skills.
• Ability to work as a team player.
• Proficient with office software, Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.
• Proficient with office equipment.

OTHER:
• Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills to coordinate with other departments, answer public inquiries, and interact with significant and influential individuals.
• Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality
• Displays high standards of ethical conduct. Exhibits honesty and integrity. Refrains from dishonest and unethical behavior.
• Works with minimal supervision. Demonstrates responsible behavior and attention to detail.
