Job Description

The Museology Graduate Program at the University of Washington seeks an Assistant Teaching Professor. This position will be expected to engage in teaching areas such in exhibition design and development, interpretation, and/or storytelling. The successful applicant will be appointed as an Assistant Teaching Professor, non-tenure eligible, full-time, in the History Department of the University of Washington’s College of Arts and Sciences for three years, with the possibility of renewal. The position is a 9-month appointment, with a start date of September 16, 2022.

About the Museology Graduate Program
The Museology Graduate Program is a two-year, full-time, master’s program on the UW Seattle campus. We accept 30-35 students each year, and inspire them to use museums to build strong communities. We are an interdisciplinary program in the UW’s Graduate School, and our 4 full-time faculty and 14 guest faculty have academic appointments spanning multiple UW colleges or schools.

Responsibilities of the Museology Assistant Teaching Professor
This position is appointed within History Department of the College of Arts and Sciences, but all courses will be taught in the Museology Graduate Program. The position involves teaching a minimum of 2 Museology courses per quarter, over 3 quarters. The position also involves advising Museology students, chairing master’s thesis committees, and providing service to both the Museology Graduate Program and the History Department. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching and service.

Qualifications
The position requires a Ph.D. in public history or a related field (or foreign equivalent). The ideal candidate must have at least one year of higher education teaching experience.
