Job Description

The American Indian Higher Education Consortium (AIHEC) is the collective spirit and unifying voice of our nation's tribal colleges and universities (TCUs). AIHEC provides leadership and influences public policy on American Indian and Alaska Native higher education issues through advocacy, research, and programmatic initiatives; promotes and strengthens Indigenous languages, cultures, communities, lands, and tribal nations; and through its unique position, serves member institutions and emerging TCUs. 

Summary

The successful candidate will provide dynamic vision, direction, and specific expertise in higher education and program management and will be responsible for the development and implementation of activities around intermediaries for scale and support institutional transformations at tribal colleges and universities (TCUs). 

Essential Functions:

  • Build organizational capacity for intermediaries to support TCUs and empower them to undergo institutional transformation through postsecondary education to completion
  • Work with AIHEC and the TCU leadership to define, create, facilitate, manage, and oversee AIHEC’s intermediary agenda and student success infrastructure, including strategic planning, program implementation, and collaboration with partnering institutions
  • Assist in developing capacity-building programs to ensure alignment with the unique perspectives of TCUs/AN/NHSIs/NASNTI 
  • Identify opportunities to engage other subject matter experts with expertise in higher education policy and program development
  • Provide support (e.g., project management, budgeting, external engagement and contracting support) to TCUs to facilitate effective and sustainable activities and external partnerships
  • Engage with networks of practice among public and private sectors, locally, nationally, and internationally, and founded on tribal sovereignty
  • Monitor budgets and expenses, in collaboration with AIHEC staff, to ensure expenditures remain within budget allocations
  • Function as a top consultant to member institutions and preside over growing and influential institutional capacity building, as well as the research and publications teams
  • Supervise team members through collaboration and cooperation, leading by example
  • Develop proposals that meet and address the needs of the AIHEC, TCUs, and the agencies/funders
  • Perform other assignments as requested 

Required Education, Experience, and Attributes (minimum requirements):

  • Hold a PhD and possess a successful track record in research, grant management, and program administration
  • Experience in program evaluation and demonstrated evidence of successful project management
  • Experience working on multi-partner initiatives
  • Depth of knowledge in underserved student success and risk factors
  • Demonstrated experience working in postsecondary contexts
  • Familiarity with research in fields such as higher education access, completion, and equity
  • Understanding of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) higher education issues, as well as issues regarding research in AI/AN or other Indigenous communities and tribal nations
  • Proactive team player with knowledge of consensus building and group facilitation processes
  • Strong grant writing skills
  • Must be a motivated ‘go-getter’
  • Strong collaborator
