The Position

Reporting to the vice president for enrollment planning and management, the university registrar serves as the senior leader of the office of the registrar and member of the enrollment planning and management leadership team. The university registrar supports the academic enterprise, advancing academic initiatives and creating an administrative structure that promotes student success while maintaining a focus on student service; serves as the steward of University policies and processes related to the support of academic units; and establishes effective relationships with faculty and academic partners across campus collaborating on issues relating to curriculum, university policies, reporting needs and other areas of registrar responsibilities.

The university registrar is responsible for all functions of the office of the registrar, including the creation, maintenance, long term retention, integrity, and accuracy of student academic records; consulting with other campus officials to develop, revise, and administer registration and enrollment procedures; the development of term courses, schedule of classes and updating and maintaining the Smart Catalog; the curriculum proposal process and systems, the certification of enrollment and reporting to the Department of Education; the monitoring and verification of degree progress, auditing and final degree clearance and the preparation of diplomas and official transcripts; and the monitoring of student academic standings. In addition to the enforcement of all academic regulations, the university registrar is responsible for the distribution of student record data to academic and administrative units; the collection of enrollment data for analysis and reporting needs; providing oversight of the NCAA certification of incoming student-athletes entering the University’s various Division 1 interscholastic sports programs; and assisting with commencement activities. The university registrar also serves as the campus compliance officer for the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) and the steward of University policies and processes related to the support of academic units; manages an annual operating budget; and oversees a staff of 27, including three direct reports: director of registration and academic history, director of academic systems and ERP coordinator, and administrative coordinator.


The successful candidate will possess a master’s degree in higher education or related field from an accredited institution of higher education with significant, documented, progressively responsible experience in a leadership position within a university registrar’s office. Additional requirements include excellent critical thinking and interpersonal skills, including tact, diplomacy, and flexibility; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships with other administrators, instructors, students, other educational institution officers, government agencies and the general public; and outstanding organizational skills and the ability to coordinate systems and processes while engaging other stakeholders. Candidates possessing at least five years of experience as a registrar working in an enrollment management environment at a mid to large size university and experience using the Banner student information system are highly preferred.
