The American Indian College Fund (College Fund) strives to positively impact the lives of American Indians by supporting their higher education and career objectives.  College Fund team members believe education is the answer and collectively we raise funds, provide scholarships, and holistically support students in achieving their goals.

 

The priority of the TCU Computer Science Initiative is to facilitate the establishment of computer science education at tribal colleges and universities and to increase the number of Native students and community members with computer science knowledge. Programming under this initiative primarily empowers tribal colleges and universities to build capacity through the development of computer science courses and programs and through building human capital especially computer science instructors. Further, the initiative seeks to increase the integration of computer science education throughout college curriculum, ensure delivery of introductory computer science courses throughout the TCU system, and encourage participation in computer science education through outreach to students of all ages.

 

The TCU Computer Science Initiative Program Manager provides expertise in program design and development, faculty development, course development and delivery, and creation of services that support student pathways into computer science education. The TCU Computer Science Initiative Program Manager will be responsible for the successful implementation of all aspects of computer science education programming and outreach at participating tribal colleges and universities. The Program Manager will work to establish external partnerships with industry and community partners and to internally coordinate with multiple donor-funded program grants within the College Fund. The position is also responsible for supporting program evaluation, program adaptations for continuous improvement, and reporting to communicate program impact.

 

Essential Job Functions

  1. Manage the overall TCU Computer Science Education Initiative
    1. Develop program plans, including process for selecting TCUs to participate in program based on faculty and other resources.
    2. Support program implementation at participating TCUs.
    3. Build a cohort of TCUs engaged with computer science education and use community of practice strategies to gain widespread commitment to computer science education as an institutional and community resource and to share best practices.
    4. Support effective collaboration with TCUs and coordinate complementary efforts already at work.
    5. Foster widespread awareness of computer science and computer science education among TCUs and other tribal partners and communities.
    6. Create formal and informal relationships with industry, education organizations, and computer science associations.
    7. Support program evaluation by aiding the development of evaluation metrics and methodologies for showing progress and defining overall success of the Initiative.
    8. Create and manage the program budget.
    9. Ensure proper management of the Initiative as a donor funded program grant.
    10. Provide reporting on program activities and impact.
  2. Support Programs, Student Services, and Faculty Development priorities of the College Fund
    1. Actively participate in department level and organizational strategic and annual planning.
    2. Support sharing of successful programming between the College Fund and the TCUs and among the TCUs themselves.
    3. Support the development and implementation of strategies to enhance and expand best practices in supporting computer science education among the TCUs, with partners, and with tribal communities.  
    4. Engage and develop meaningful relationships with community partners, regional, and national organizations.
    5. Present College Fund programming and outcomes at conferences and other venues
    6. Collaborate on TCU and student engagement and communication efforts

 

  1. Support other College Fund Strategic Goals and Objectives
    1. Share student stories and program successes to support the College Fund’s general awareness and fundraising efforts
    2. Support donor relationships and fundraising efforts

 

Job Requirements

Education/Experience/Certification Requirements

  • Master’s Degree or bachelor’s degree with significant experience in program design and implementation and in building communities of practice
  • Extensive experience working with AIAN or underserved populations, including high school and/or college students in those communities
  • Understanding of computer science education at the university level
  • Experience in curriculum development and program evaluation

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • D. in a field relevant to education or computer science. For example
  • Degree in Education with knowledge of or experience in computer science education
  • Degree in Computer Science with knowledge of or experience in education
  • Four years of experience at a director level.
