Hiring Department Information

The Department of Kinesiology is housed within the College of Health and Human Services. The Kinesiology program offers a Bachelor of Science degree with two concentrations of study in Exercise Science and Physical Education, a Master of Science with two concentrations of study (Exercise Science and Movement Studies), and a Personal Trainer/Strength and Conditioning Certificate. Two additional programs include a minor in Coaching Education and Supplementary Authorization in Physical Education.

Duties/Responsibilities

  • Teach a variety of physical education and/or kinesiology courses at the undergraduate and graduate level based on departmental need
  • Supervise student teachers
  • Advise students in the undergraduate Physical Education-Teacher Education concentration, as well as mentor graduate students
  • Conduct research and scholarly activities 
  • Serve on Department, College and University committees
  • Participate in community service relevant to teaching and research
  • Work as a cooperative and collegial member of the faculty
  • Commit to serving diverse student populations

 

Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Doctorate in Physical Education, Kinesiology, or closely related field.  Individuals who are verified ABD at the time of application will be considered but degree must be completed by August 1, 2021
  • Ability to teach K-12 physical education pedagogy courses
  • Experience in addressing or implementing matters related to diversity in an education environment or community 

Preferred Qualifications:          

  • Teaching experience in public schools with a diverse student population
  • Teaching experience in a college or university setting
  • Ability to teach within the following areas: sport pedagogy, assessment strategies in physical education, adapted physical education, and introduction to kinesiology
  • Use of developmentally and instructionally appropriate progressions, various teaching styles, technology, and assessment strategies in physical education
  • Record of research, grants, and scholarly activity
  • A K-12 physical education teaching credential/licensure
