Job Description

JOB PURPOSE:

Provides individual counseling to Navajo Technical University students referred or as walk-in. Provides psychological assessment, diagnosis, and therapy, case management services,  referral, services for individuals, couples, groups, and/or families, as appropriate to the specific expectations of the position. Oversees and coordinates prevention, counseling and success of students in program.

JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develops and implements treatment plans based on clinical experience and knowledge.
    Prepares and maintains all required treatment records and reports.
  • Maintain Counseling program's goals, objectives, policies and procedures
  • Observes students in various situations; selects, administers, and interprets intelligence, personality, or other psychological tests to diagnose disorders and formulate plans of treatment, and provides consultation to other mental health professionals with regard to results.
  • Documents therapy in accordance with policies and procedures, and adheres to policies which ensure student confidentiality.
  • Provides crisis intervention in situations requiring immediate psychological treatment
  • Provides and/or arranges for constructive interventions as appropriate for students in a crisis condition and for those with disturbance problems.
  • Consults with other therapists and related professional off campus, as appropriate; refers clients to appropriate service agencies as required.
  • Guides students in the development of skills or strategies for dealing with their problems.
  • Participates in and/or coordinates training sessions and workshops to enhance treatment skills.
  • Collects data about students through interview, case history, tests, and/or observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists.
  • Participates in educational programs, in-service meetings, clinician meetings, and  workshops to enhance professional development and maintain currency of methodology and techniques.
  • Assist in retention strategies to support student efforts.
  • Provide individual counseling to students in personal and interpersonal adjustment, academic concerns, and career and life planning and refers students to counseling resources and other services as appropriate
  • Consults with faculty, staff and others as appropriate to provide an optimum environment for student success.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • None

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Master's Degree in Counseling, Psychology, Education, or closely related field.
  • Three year work experience actively counseling adults and young adults in a secondary or post-secondary academic setting.
  • Two years in a supervisory capacity
  • Licensed as a Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC).
  • Valid and clean state driver's license.
  • Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and/or neglect.
