Job Description

Grand Valley State University seeks an outstanding enrollment management professional to join the Senior Leadership Team as Vice President for Enrollment Development. The Vice President for Enrollment Development is the chief enrollment and retention strategist for the University, providing expertise and leadership necessary to closely align strategic objectives in pursuit of the vision of the Board of Trustees, the President, and other Executive Officers.

The Vice President for Enrollment Development is a member of the University’s senior leadership team, underscoring the importance of innovative recruitment and retention for the long-term sustainability of the University. The Vice President will be a leader with exceptional experience in evidenced-based predictive analytics to utilize data more powerfully to elevate enrollment, retention and student lifecycle experience. The Vice President for Enrollment Development will also bring strong interpersonal and communication skills and the enthusiasm to partner with an engaged community, including the president, other executive officers and academic leadership, board of trustees, alumni, faculty, staff, students, parents and pre-college education partners to achieve GVSU’s enrollment and retention priorities. The successful candidate will have outstanding leadership and management skills; significant breadth and depth of experience in higher education enrollment management; experience in the effective use of financial aid funds; comfort, experience and familiarity with recruitment of international students, student-athletes, and graduate students; an innovative spirit; a willingness to take calculated risks based on sound research; a commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity; the ability to lead and manage large-scale, university-wide initiatives; demonstrated success in developing and deploying analytics and metrics-based enrollment systems, processes and technologies; and an ability to enter a university centered for students and proud of its high-touch environment.

The Vice President for Enrollment Development will report directly to President Philomena Mantella, GVSU’s fifth president since the founding of the institution. Dr. Mantella brings a new and fresh vision for the University coupled with a deep understanding of the critical role that innovative strategies in enrollment management play in attaining the broad goals of the University.

The Vice President for Enrollment Development will join a dynamic senior leadership team during a time of transition and opportunity for the University. GVSU has been the fastest growing University in the Midwest over recent years. While leading an enrollment operation that has achieved unprecedented success, the next Vice President will play a critical role in shaping the University’s future, providing the vision for an enrollment effort that is ambitious and supports the success of students from all backgrounds. In developing that vision, the Vice President will assess the enrollment opportunities and challenges for GVSU as well as formulate, execute and continuously evolve a strategic enrollment plan that furthers the University’s mission and strategic priorities.

The Vice President will lead strong and cohesive teams within the Enrollment Development Division; to provide leadership and counsel in strategic and operational enrollment management.
