Job Description

The Wheelock College of Education and Human Development at Boston University invites applications for a full-time, Clinical Assistant Professor in the area of TESOL, with specializations in second language acquisition, language testing/assessment, and/or TESOL teaching methods. The Department of Language and Education, in which this position will be housed, is a community of scholars and educators who embrace multilingualism and multiliteracies and who share an explicit commitment to combatting the deficit framing of racial and linguistic minorities. To that end, we are seeking a colleague whose scholarship and teaching carry a strong social justice mission; who can enhance our efforts to build equitable and just education environments for multilingual learners; who has emerging visibility in the field of TESOL; and who has a track record of effectively teaching graduate-level TESOL courses. Experience with program management and interest in taking on a leadership role within our TESOL Non-Licensure program are preferred. This position begins July 1, 2020. Required Qualifications:

  • Earned doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Educational Linguistics, or a related field

  • An active and coherent program of research in second language acquisition, language testing/assessment, and/or TESOL teaching methods.

  • Experience teaching TESOL courses at the university level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • International teaching experience
  • Bilingual or multilingual proficiency
  • Experience directing a language program or a teacher education program

The successful candidate will pursue a relevant program of research, build relationships with local communities of ESL educators and learners, and explore collaborative possibilities with other faculty in the College and at Boston University. This position will involve teaching existing teacher education courses, such as Second Language Acquisition, Teaching Methods in TESOL, and Structure of English, as well as developing new courses such as Testing and Assessment in TESOL. The successful candidate will also advise graduate students and collaborate with the current program director to further develop the TESOL Non-Licensure Program.
